As an Engineering Technician (Civil) you will serve as the Laboratory's subject matter expert on a wide range of materials testing activities. You will be responsible for planning, coordinating and executing civil engineering projects in field environments and on the Cold Regions Research and Engineering Laboratory (CRREL) campus related to a wide variety of geotechnical, concrete, and pavements engineering topics.
Experience required:
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
To qualify for the GS-08 level, your resume must describe at least one year of experience equivalent to the GS-07 grade level which prepared you to do the work in this job. Specialized experience is defined as: Experienceassisting in planning, coordination for, and execution of civil engineering research projects in field and laboratory environments related to a wide variety of geotechnical, concrete, and pavements engineering studies for the Corps of Engineers.This includes experience operating equipment such as a falling weight deflectometer (FWD) or heavy weight deflectometer (HWD), heavy/construction equipment operations andmaintenance (grader, dump truck, front end loader, dozer, roller, and/or other), and experience in a laboratory setting preparing samples and executing standardized (ASTM) testing on one or more material types (concrete, soils, metals, composites, other).
To qualify for the GS-09 level, your resume must describe at least one year of experience equivalent to the GS-08 grade level which prepared you to do the work in this job. Specialized experience is defined as: Experienceassisting in planning, coordination for, and execution of civil engineering research projects in field and laboratory environments related to a wide variety of geotechnical, concrete, and pavements engineering studies for the Corps of Engineers.This includes experience operating equipment such as a falling weight deflectometer (FWD) or heavy weight deflectometer (HWD), heavy/construction equipment operations andmaintenance (grader, dump truck, front end loader, dozer, roller, and/or other), and experience in a laboratory setting preparing samples and executing standardized (ASTM) testing on one or more material types (concrete, soils, metals, composites, other).Experience also includes: meteorological evaluation tower (MET) stations fabrication, integration, testing, and field deployment; and, concrete and/or flowable fill materiel development and testing for cold weather or other applications requiring unique performance specifications.

Education Substitution:

For the GS-09 level, you may qualify if you have a Master's degree or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree in Engineering, or related field of study.

The work requires some physical exertion. Common characteristics of the work are long periods of standing; walking over rough, uneven, rocky, or slippery surfaces; recurring bending, crouching, stooping, stretching, climbing, or similar activities; recurring lifting of light to moderately heavy items weighing less than 50 pounds (i.e., 23 kilograms), such as testing or measuring equipment.

The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
