### Position Information
## Position Purpose
Within the Hopkins Center's Department of Audience Engagement, designs and assists in the production and distribution of a wide variety of print-based and digital projects including posters, brochures, flyers, newsletters, programs, direct mail and print advertisements. Provides high-quality designs and concepts that strategically support the mission of the Hopkins Center and effectively market the programs offered by its departments.
## Skills & Knowledge
Demonstrated outstanding graphic design skills and high level of creativity.
Highly proficient in the use of the latest versions of design and design-related computer software and systems, including Adobe InDesign, Photoshop, and Illustrator.
Solid understanding of all processes involved in conventional offset and digital printing.
Understanding of manipulation and preparation of digital images and graphic files in all standard formats.
Familiarity with design concepts and practices for websites, including the preparation of web images and graphics.
Strong experience using Macintosh computers in a networked environment, including troubleshooting and resolution of many types of hardware, software and network problems.
Photography and/or illustration skills desirable.
Ability to work as part of a professional marketing and publicity team, as well as ability to work with external graphic designers, photographers, illustrators and vendors.
Proven skills in client relations and effective communications.
Ability to work under tight deadlines and manage multiple client needs and heavy workload.
Commitment to diversity and serving the needs of a diverse population.
## Minimum Experience
Two to three years of graphic design experience working on print and digital media.
Direct experience working with printers on the production of printed works.
Experience in web-based production and social media platforms.
Experience working in performing arts is preferred.
## Minimum Education
Bachelor's degree in Graphic Design or Fine Arts or the equivalent combination of education and experience.

Graphic Design Development and Execution
Ascertains the publication and distribution needs of the Hopkins Center, based on multiple departmental meetings.
Provides departments within the Hopkins Center with conceptual advice and product information by keeping up-to-date on design trends and relevant styles.
Conducts program-related research on historical, geographical and cultural concepts and styles to develop ideas.
Assists the Marketing Studio Manager in preparing bid documentation, evaluating bids or proposals, and providing departments with printing costs and options along with production schedules.
Collaborates with the Marketing Studio Manager on the subsequent project evolution from concept, through layout and printing.
Utilizes computer software for layout, typography, drawing, scanning and photo manipulation while making aesthetic selections and determinations that provide best layout, composition, and meets marketing goals; selects type style and size, type of paper and ink colors, etc.
Prepares final files for vendors and facilitates the pre- and post-press production process.
Requests and reviews photographs and illustrations, providing art direction as needed.
Reviews and corrects the proof and blueline.
Monitors the printing process, checking for faithfulness of colors, pagination, page alignment, adequacy of binding, etc. Attends press checks where possible.
Attends professional development courses to retain up-to-date and in-depth knowledge of technology, graphic expertise, etc.
Marketing Planning and Support
Attends weekly project and staff meetings to discuss publications in production and to provide input into other projects and planning.
As appropriate, participates in the design of web and interactive media projects and collaborates with colleagues in the Hopkins Center and Computing Services to ensure a cohesive web image and production direction for Dartmouth College.
Is influential in branding and sub-branding decisions as they pertain to the Hopkins Center.
